Crochet Today Holiday 2007

October 4, 2007

I was very excited when my issue of Crochet Today arrived in the mailbox–one of my projects, the flowering necklace, made the cover! Yay!

I also contributed this retro boy hat which I really ended up liking. I think I worked the stripes a zillion times to get just the right combination. It’s made with Red Heart Soft, which was actually pretty nice to work with and comes in a lot of colors– good to know if you have a lot of giftmaking on your list.

In other news, I signed up for two knitting classes in town so that I can learn to knit hats- one is a chunky earflap hat, and one is in the round. I’m mosty interested in the in-the-round one, but I signed up with a friend and we could both use a refresher.  There weren’t a ton of crochet classes on offer (which maybe I can fix), although at the competing yarn shop, there are. They’re so inexpensive that I just might have to sign up for all of them.

New Adorn (On Newsstands August 6)

August 4, 2007

I’ve been pretty darn sick these past few days, so here I am popping in again. Today the new issue of Adorn came to my mom’s house, which was so exciting. I’m used to getting to see the first copies and this time I had to wait like everyone else! (No matter how many layouts you pore over, there’s nothing like seeing it in print.)

It’s a new, larger size, and I really love the way it lets the projects and instructions breathe. There are all sorts of cool ideas (if I do say so myself)– click to get a sneak peek of the table of contents. My favorite thing I made for the issue is this ottoman cover- I felt seriously accomplished once I figured it out! I am in love with patchwork, and really really miss my sewing machine and fabric stash right now.

The other thing I love is that a lot of the projects in this issue involve recycling and using items you already have in your stash. So don’t forget to go grab it at Borders or Barnes and Noble in a few days, and remember that you can also buy it online.

Filigree Bowl (as seen in Crochet Today)

I designed this bowl for the current issue of Crochet Today and when I was cruising craftster today I saw that one of the members already made it! Hooray! I love that part the best, it makes me feel like the project was successful. This project was really fun to design– there was a lot of figuring as far as the design went (the photo to the far right of my header is an “in progress” shot) and let me tell you: it’s scary to dunk your creation in a sugar/water solution and hope that it really works as a stiffener. It does! I could have thrown the thing at the wall and I don’t think it would have broken (and I was oddly tempted to test my theory, but alas, I had to submit the project).

Anyway, if you’re looking for a quick crochet project, pick up a copy of the mag. This has to be my favorite design for them so far, I even want to make it again so I can keep it. I’ve also got some simple rosettes in the issue- perfect for summer sandals.

Mag Projects: Knit 1 Summer 2007

June 13, 2007

Here’s a blatantly promotional post to let you know that I have my first ever project in Knit1 Magazine (which, despite never having knit before, I thought was the coolest thing ever when I saw the first issue). It’s a lace piece to overlay on an existing shirt, a la my other crochet detail work. It’s part of their green issue- check it out!
